As night draws in and the witching hour approaches, there are many spooky events to be found behind every corner in the city near our hotel in Leeds. The New Ellington, Leeds hotel in the centre of Leeds business district, is an excellent choice for thrill seekers looking for a spooky night out. Start your evening in the hotel bar, the Gin Garden, where you’ll have the choice of over 100 varieties of gin, the perfect way to steady your nerves before heading out for a Halloween scare.
Ken Goor, a renowned Leeds historian, has been running guided tours for 32 years which delve into the history and folklore of this magnificent industrial city. At Halloween he runs a guided Ghost Walk, starting at the iconic Corn Exchange at 7:30pm, and taking you on a scary tour of Leeds streets and alleyways. For full information on the tour and other events such as ‘The Dark Side of Leeds (body snatching, witchcraft and more) visit his website.
Add a touch of colour to your festivities this Halloween when staying at our Leeds hotel and celebrate fiesta-style at the ruined Cistercian monastery of Kirkstall Abbey. Running over the Halloween weekend 27th to 29th of October, Sneaky Experiences will be hosting ‘Leeds Day of the Dead Fiesta.’ The three-day event will feature an outdoor cinema in the atmospheric surroundings of the Abbey, which was established in 1152. The event features a giant skull parade, decorative costumes, live acts, music, DJs and skull painting. The fireworks display will bring a dramatic touch to an exhilarating weekend.
Experience a real spooktacular Yorkshire welcome as you explore the historic public houses dotted around the city near our central Leeds hotel. Tucked away in a ginnel (alleyway) off the main strip of Briggate, you will find The Pack Horse – a traditional ale house serving a wide range of cask ales and award winning Pieminister pies. Further down Briggate and again tucked away, you will find Leeds' oldest pub Whitelocks, established in 1715. It was the first commercial building to have electricity in Leeds; the bar -with its ornate décor including marble topped bar, etched mirrors, and glass - has been a popular haunt for locals and even Royalty for over 300 years.
Full of history and many stories to tell, Leeds is an excellent choice for a Halloween weekend away…..
The New Ellington is a great hotel to stay in. The rooms are very spacious and the staff are the best I have ever come across. They made us feel like part of a big family and were very helpful. I will definitely be back for another visit.
